Kayaking with Florida's Wildlife August 18, 2015

Karen, Peggy and I got off to an early start on the Wekiva River this morning. With plenty of shade we drifted along soaking up all the wildlife. A Limpkin greeted us right away followed by a fly over of a pair of Black-bellied Whistling Ducks and we later found a pair sitting up on a Wood Duck box. What a unique bird the Whistling Ducks are. We saw the first Kingfisher of the season and summer must be starting to come to an end as the Red Maples are turning. We found some Scarlet Hibiscus and Pink Mallow in bloom and 1 large Paper Wasp nest. I had a Grass Frog take a ride on my hat for a bit, the hitch hiker. Paddling back we saw lots of Turtles out sunning, an Alligator, Great Blue Herons, Wild Turkeys, Great Egrets, Anhingas, Little Blue and Tri-colored Herons too. What a lovely morning to be on the river!
