Kayaking the St Johns River October 19, 2015
The St Johns River was full of nature this morning. Flat calm with a mirror reflection of the new Fall colors. The Kingfishers were flying around doing their thing, chatting up a storm. The Pied-billed Grebes are here now and the White Ibis, Anhingas, Great Egret, Great, Tri-colored and Litte Blue Herons were all spotted along the way too. Around 10:00 am the wind picked up and blew us upstream which is the way we were headed so that worked out well. Around Snake Creek we got to see several Turtles and a few small Gators out sunning and after a little snack break deep in the flooded swamps we headed back downstream. Staying close to the tree line we avoided the wind and got to see a lone Bald Eagle just above us eating his lunch. It was a great day for birding on the river and the kayaks are a great way to get us there.
