The Wekiva never fails to deliver. Before we even got
on the river there was a family of Sandhill Cranes and a Momma Turkey with 3
youngsters. The river flowers are in full bloom with Scarlet Hibiscus, Pink
Mallow, Primrose and Spider Lilies. Drifting past the Giant Leather Ferns and
Spanish Moss hanging in the trees we saw Anhingas, Moorhens with their chicks, Great
and Little Blue Herons. Then the pair of Limpkins showed up. The Osprey that
came by was carrying a fish with him and the Wild Turkeys let off and flew
across the river. It was a great day to be kayaking the Lower Wekiva River.
